Peggy A. Manning

March 19, 1951 — August 14, 2019

Peggy A. Manning, 68, Greenleaf, died Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at the Washington County Hospital, Washington. Visitation will be at Washington Christian Church, Saturday, August 31st, at 10:00 am.   The Celebration of Life service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jim Stark officiating. Eulogist are Allisha Highberger Castlebury and Jessica Bugbee Flynn.  Gay Lynn Manning is the pianist and Skyler Manning will sing "Amazing Grace" and "The Lord's Prayer.  The congregation will sing "When We All Get to Heaven." Private burial will be held at the Washington City Cemetery. Peggy was born March 19, 1951, in Belleville, KS, to Haskell and Erma (Thompson) Manning. She had no children of her own, but all of her nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews were very special to her and was loved to the moon and back.  They all knew that and loved her dearly as well.  Peggy was always there and would do anything she could for them. Family was everything to her. When she was 2 years old, the family moved to Washington, where she grew up and attended Washington Public Schools.  When she left school, she moved to the State of Washington for a short time, before returning to Washington County.  She had a heart of gold.  She helped care for loved ones in numerous ways, including working at nursing home facilities and care units in Linn, Blue Rapids, Marysville, and Washington. She loved people and helped them in any way she could.  She also worked at Twin Valley Developmental Services in Greenleaf from 2000-2013 as a supported house aide and residential supervisor.  During the summer, she worked at Washington Cedar Hill Golf Course tending to the club house.  She worked a short time at Casey’s General Store, where she received a “Coin of Excellence” Award for her continued kindness to the customers and excellent service.  She returned to Twin Valley Developmental Services in February 2019 as an independent living home supervisor, until her medical condition did not allow her to continue.  She fought and won the fight of breast and esophageal cancer. Peggy transferred her membership to the Washington Christian Church in 2016.  She was a member of the Women’s Coterie. Peggy never met a stranger and had a special place in her heart for everyone she met. She was preceded in death by her parents, Haskell and Erma Manning, her stepdad Eugene Morehead, her brother Dennis Manning, and her beloved dog, Mickey. Survivors include her brothers Glenn Manning, Clay Center, KS, and Mike and wife Gay Lynn Manning, Washington, KS; sisters Edna and husband, Tim Highberger, Hooker, OK, and Nancy and husband, Larry Basel, Solomon, KS. Eleven nieces and nephews, Chris Manning, Clay Center, KS; Danny and wife Debbie Manning, Grand Rapids, MI; Corri and husband Seth Roberts, Wichita, KS; Stewart and wife Lyndi Manning, Tuscola, TX; Scott and wife Tiffany Manning, St. George, KS; Skyler Manning, Junction City, KS; Justin and wife Jaqlyn Highberger, Clinton Township, MI; Allisha and husband Josh Castlebury, Hooker, OK; Shayna Highberger, Hooker, OK;  Jessica and husband Caleb Flynn, Solomon, KS; Jennifer and husband Curtis Weise, O’Neil, NE. She was loved by her aunts, uncles, cousins and twenty five great nieces and nephews; Briley, Gracee, Savannah, Alexandria, Madeline, Zachary, Alex, Madelynn, Walker, Everett, Carter, Archer, Sawyer, Dakota, Jenna, Franki, Kalia, Kamron, Kyleen, Jaelyn, Shawn, Emily, Brayden, Evan, Harper, and an upcoming great niece or nephew  that she was quite excited about..
