Norman L. Doremus

Norman L. Doremus, 72, of Greenleaf, Kan., died July 24, 2018 at the VA Hospital in Topeka, Kan.A funeral service was held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, July 27 at Ward Funeral Home in Greenleaf.  A memorial ride was held before the service.Norman was born January 12, 1946 at Scottsbluff, Neb., to Walter L. and Mayme M. (Onstott) Doremus.  As a child he lived in Hay Springs, Neb and then moved to Fremont, Calif.  He returned to Gering, Neb, where he graduated from high school in 1964.   In 1965, Norm joined the U.S. Army and served six years in New England, Germany and Turkey.He was united in marriage to Susan Evans and to that union, two children were born, Julie and Brian.  They later divorced.  In 1999, he moved to Greenleaf, where he lived until his death.Norman had a gift of working with his hands, resulting in his own upholstery shops, trike conversion company, and various construction, remodeling and furniture projects.  In recent years he developed a passion for motorcycles and trikes, particularly Honda Goldwings, of which he was the proud owner of three.  Norm started a business called Hobo Conversions and converted 80-100 trikes.  He rode with many friends in the Christian Motorcycle Association.Norman loved fishing, golfing, and traveling the states and spent two weeks in Australia and New Zealand.  One of his favorites, was a family fishing trip to Canada in the Mid 1990’s.Preceding him in death were his parents; and daughter, Julie.Survivors include his son, Brian; three grandchildren, Kevin, Lindsey and Jonathan Proulx; two sisters, Donna Eaton, New Orleans, LA, Karen (Dennis) Munoz, Kimball, NE; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.A memorial fund is established and will be designated later.  Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home, Washington.
