Wanda Nadine Portenier, 86, Washington, died Saturday, March 14, 2026, at the Washington County Hospital in Washington.
Visitation was held Thursday, March 19, at Ward Funeral Home from 3 to 7 p.m. with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m.
A funeral service was held at 10 a.m., Friday, March 20, at the Washington Christian Church. Rev. Eli Sweany officiated.
Burial was held at 2 p.m. in the Guide Rock Cemetery, Guide Rock, NE.
On June 29, 1939, Wanda was born to Raymond and Erma Pauline (Reed) Amack in Burr Oak, KS. In 1956, she graduated from Guide Rock High School as valedictorian in Guide Rock, NE.
Wanda married Gary Portenier on June 2, 1957, at the Guide Rock Church of Christ and this union was blessed with three children, Kathleen, Dennis and Kevin.
They moved to Seward, NE in 1967 and in 1972, Wanda started working at Seward Motor Freight as an accountant in accounts receivable. She retired in 2007 and they moved to Washington to be close to family.
Wanda loved studying the bible and was very active in the church. She enjoyed growing flowers and was extremely proud of her family and grandchildren.
Preceding her in death was her parents; husband, Gary in 2016; and brother, Garth Amack.
Survivors include children, Kathleen (Gary Dean) Sheely, Sapulpa, OK, Dennis (Angie) Portenier, Washington, and Kevin (Sherri) Portenier, Lakewood, CO; brothers, Gerry (Penny) Amack and Phil (Cheri) Amack; and grandchildren, Kenton Sheely, Dillon Sheely, Levi Portenier, Karly (Ryan) Holshue, Skylar Portenier and Sarah Portenier.
A memorial fund has been established in her name and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home, PO Box 157, Washington, KS 66968.
