Timothy Brad Gilliam

The world lost a true cowboy on July 6, 2025, when Timothy Brad Gilliam, 69, Washington, passed away at his home after a courageous battle with ALS.

A funeral service will take place 5:30 p.m., Friday, July 11, 2025, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Greenleaf, KS. Father David Metz will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Trevor Heitman, Aaron Doll, Mike Gilliam, John Gilliam, Jerry Gilliam and Garold Bolejack.  Honorary pallbearers are John Doll, Don Heitman, Neil Bisping, Donnie Kirkham, Colton Doll, Bo Doll and Leo Heitman.

Burial will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.

A meal will follow at the Gilliam Sale Barn north of Greenleaf after the burial.

Born on October 21, 1955, in Washington, KS to Timothy and Anna Marie (Klee) Gilliam, Tim grew up with a strong work ethic and a deep love for the land. He graduated from Washington High School in 1974 and earned his degree in Animal Science from Kansas State University. True to his roots, Tim returned home after college to do what he loved most---raising cattle, working horses and stewarding the family land.

Tim’s love of horses and ranching was unmatched. He believed there was no better place than on the back of a good horse, whether it was riding through the pastures, working cattle or helping a neighbor. Horses weren’t just animals to Tim—they were partners, friends and part of his way of life. He poured his heart into the land and his livestock, raising both with care, grit and quiet pride.

On June 7, 1980, Tim married the love of his life, Sheri Wells. Together they built a life centered on family, hard work and love. They raised two daughters, Jessie and Carrie, who carry on his strength, kindness and tenacity. Tim also deeply loved and respected his sons-in-law, Aaron and Trevor. He considered them as sons—admiring their devotion to his daughters, their work ethic and the way they embraced ranch life and family values. His six grandchildren—Colton, Bo, Lanie, Carlie, Leo and Emma—were the lights of his life and his legacy lives on through each of them. He taught them about horses, honesty and how to work hard while staying humble.

Tim was a brother to Peggy, Mike, John, Jerry, Kathy and Mary Beth and a loyal friend to many. Known for his gentle spirit, steady hands and big heart. Tim was the kind of man everyone looked up to. He was always ready to lend a hand—whether fixing fence, pulling someone out of a snowbank, showing up with a team of horses and a trailer just when you needed him most and riding around the countryside with his friends and dog, taking in the open skies and wide pastures.

He was a cowboy in the truest sense—quiet, dependable, strong and always looking out for others. His neighbors respected him, friends loved him and his family cherished him.

The trails he rode may be quiet now, but his footprints remain—in every pasture, every sunset ride and in the hearts of all who knew him.
