Thelma Jean Spunaugle, 83, died Sunday, March 15, 2020 at the Linn Community Nursing Home in Linn. Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 18 from 1 until 8 p.m. at Ward Funeral Home in Washington. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A private funeral service will held. Burial will be in Enosdale Cemetery. Thelma was born May 23, 1936 to Andrew and Vernie (Summers) Smith in Nowater, OK. She grew up in Greenleaf, KS. On June 12, 1955, she was united in marriage to Max Day. This union had five children, Bonnie, Dennis, Kathy, Mike and Scott. Max died November 10, 1994. Thelma married Darrol Spunaugle on December 20, 1997, and they made their home in Washington. Thelma was a member of the Washington Christian Church. She was a past member of the Coteri and the VFW Auxiliary. She was a homemaker and loved collecting cookie jars and tea pots. Thelma enjoyed going to Bingo, driving around and her cat “Lucky”. Preceding her in death were her parents; first husband, Max; and siblings, Mildred, Marie, Leo, Clifford, Robert and Andrew. Survivors include her husband, Darrol; children, Bonnie (Pat) Diederich, Greenleaf, Dennis (Lynne) Day, Washington, Kathy (Jack) Adee, Haddam, Mike (Shelly) Day, Marysville and Scott (Lynette) Day, Home; grandchildren, Stacy (Diederich) Burkart, Bryon Diederich, Clayton Day, Jeff Sand, Jack Adee Jr., Amanda (Adee) Sufi, Cassandra (Adee) Smith, Chandler Day, Haley (Day) Nincehelser, Jodi (Day) Kuhaneck and twenty-one great grandchildren. A memorial fund is established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home, Washington.
