Shirley M. Kern

Shirley Mae Kern, 92, Washington, died Saturday, November 27, 2021 at Blue Valley Senior Living in Blue Rapids. Visitation will be held Thursday, December 2. from 1 to 8 p.m. at Ward Funeral Home in Washington. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, December 3 at Ward Funeral Home. Masks will be required. Burial will be in the Washington City Cemetery. Shirley was born on May 1, 1929 at Greenleaf to Arthur Earl and Agatha Stella (Wenzl) Parker. She attended school at Logan Center. She was united in marriage to Delmar John Henry Kern on July 17, 1964 at Greenleaf. To this union were born three daughters, Mary, Grace and Beth. Delmar preceded her in death in 1990. Shirley was involved in farming with her parents, then with Delmar. She loved gardening, reading, sewing, quilting and watching westerns. Survivors include Mary (Dwight) Call, Cedar Vale, Grace Kern, Washington, Beth (David) McCreight, Spring Hill; sisters, Vyonne (George) Mack, Hutchinson, Arlene Dague, Washington; sister-in-law, Virginia Parker, Greenleaf; grandchildren, Megan (Justin) Esslinger, Mandi (Cody) Bitterlin, Cathy (Todd) Murphy, Tim (Madelynn) Call, Ben (Ellie) Call, Jacinda Call, William McCreight, Nicholas McCreight, Rebecca McCreight and Michael McCreight; and eight great grandchildren, Titus Bennett, Keagen Bennett, Isabella Esslinger, Evelyn Murphy, Emmett Murphy, Tyler Call, Iyla Call and Corbin Bitterlin; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial fund is established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home, Washington.
