Rick J. Svanda

Ricky James Svanda, 62, Washington, died Sunday, June 28, 2026 at the Washington County Hospital.

A graveside service will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 6, 2026 at the Washington City Cemetery with Pastor Eli Sweany officiating.

Rick was born on November 5, 1963 to James and Carla (Binggeli) Svanda. He attended school in Washington, graduating from Washington High School 1983. On December 11, 1981, Rick was united in marriage to Diana Keylon at the United Methodist Church in Washington.

Rick was a welder for Tony Scheer in Morrowville and worked in construction for a short time. He went to work for the Landoll Corporation, working for over 40 years. Started out as a welder, then building deicers, drove a service truck and then in the tooling department building jigs.

Rick was a Hunters Ed instructor for twenty+ years and loved to fish and hunt. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren and interacting with friends at the local coffee shop.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Diana; son, Justin (Stacy) Svanda; daughter, Paige Svanda; honorary son and daughter, Tracy and Becky Tice; grandchildren, Carson and Maci Svanda, Hunter, Sira and Nathaniel Tice ; and brothers, Jerry (Kelly) Svanda and Jeff Svanda; sister-in-law, Candi Bonsal; aunt, Dee (Wes) Hitchcock; and uncles, Ed (Selena) Hawkins, Charles (Sherrie) Binggeli, and Pete (Bonnie) Binggeli and nephews and niece.

A memorial fund is established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home, Washington, KS.
