Myrl D. Merritt, 80, of Linn, KS, died Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at the Washington County Hospital. Visitation was Friday, July 24, from 1 to 8 p.m., at Ward Funeral Home in Linn. A family funeral service was held at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 25 at Zion Lutheran Church in Linn. Pastor David Gruoner officiated. Organist was Jerod Hatesohl and the congregation sang "Amazing Grace." Pallbearers were Steve Ouellette, Derrick Dusin, Dustin Dusin, Jamie Bolejack, Gabe Sampson and Robert Hall. Burial was in the church cemetery. Myrl was born June 9, 1940, on the family farm east of Washington. At the age of seven, the family moved to Linn, where he attended school and graduated high school in 1958. On June 9, 1961, Myrl was united in marriage to Patricia Boerger at Zion Lutheran Church. Myrl worked road construction and worked with his father. He moved to Burlington and worked at a filling station before returning to Linn and running Merritt 66 Gas Station. In 1985, he went to work for Dixon Tire in Washington and bought the shop in 1987. Myrl partnered with his son in 2000 and formed M & M Tire. Fishing, hunting, gardening and just being outdoors, were some of his favorite pastimes. Myrl worked hard and played hard. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren and taking camping trips. He served on the city council, Zion Church Board and belonged to the Linn Booster Club and the Sons of the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, George Merritt and Charles Merritt. Survivors include his wife, Pat; son, Mitch (Tiffany) Merritt, Linn; daughters, Ronda (Garold) Bolejack, Linn, and Denise (Brian) Dusin, Salina; brothers, Harold (Shirley) Merritt, St. Mary’s, KS, and Richard (Kathy) Merritt, Salina; sister, Carolyn Pruser, Champagne, IL; sister-in-law, Ilene Merritt, Hooker, OK; and eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. A memorial fund is established to Zion Lutheran Church, Linn Lutheran School or the Linn American Legion. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home.
