Merle M. Gross, 97, of Washington, Kan., died July 3, 2018 at the Linn Community Nursing Home in Linn, Kan.A funeral service was held at 2:30 p.m., Friday, July 6, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Linn. Pastor Tom Sahl officiated. Anita Singular played the organ while the congregation sang, “Lord, Take My Hand and Lead Me,” “A Mighty Fortress” and “He Leadeth Me”.The pallbearers were Danny Martin, Bobby Martin, Jeffrey Gross, Travis Kreifels, Gary Gravis and Grant Gravis.Burial was in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Linn.Merle was born July 22, 1920 at Linn to Louis and Clara (Kloth) Gross. In 1939, he graduated from Linn High School.On September 8, 1940, he married Olinda Schultz at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hoisington, Kan. They lived and farmed near Linn. In 1984, they moved to Washington. He also worked at Bob’s Locker part-time.Merle enjoyed going to auctions and would collect toy tractors as well as other toys and collectibles. He played cards and was in card clubs in Washington.Survivors include his daughter, Myrna (Bill) Skrabal, Washington; son, Ronald (Loeda) Gross, Salina; four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his wife, Olinda on May 30, 2014; parents; and sister, Berniece Holtgren.A memorial fund has been established to the Linn Community Nursing Home or St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
