Martha A. Lindsley

May 24, 1933 — January 22, 2024

Haddam, KS

Martha Ann Lindsley, 90, Haddam, passed away January 22, 2024 at Heritage Care Center in Fairbury, NE.  On May 24, 1933, she was born in New Smyrna Beach, FL, to Frank and Annie (Nutsch) Burke, where she lived until she was eight years old.  After the deaths of both her parents, she was sent to Morrowville to live.

In 1951, she graduated from Morrowville High School.   Martha married Melvin J. Lindsley on February 9, 1952 and they resided in Haddam, raising their family there.  Throughout her adult life, she held various jobs, but her most enjoyable one was working as a cook at Haddam Grade School.

Martha was an active member of the United Methodist Church, where she served as the church treasurer for 30 years.  She found joy in fishing with her husband, sewing, quilting, crocheting and going on outing with friends.  Martha also had a passion for entering (and occasionally winning) sweepstakes on her computer.  She was a big sports fan, especially the Kansas City Royals, but her greatest joy was watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren play any and all sports. Martha was much loved by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She will be greatly missed!

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Melvin; brothers, Benjamin, Hughey and Gregory Burke; her foster parents, Arthur and Maude Mayberry, who raised her as their own; and her brothers, Allen and William Mayberry.

Survivors include her daughters, Sue (Rick) Webb, Peoria, AZ, Barbara (Cal) Livingston, Mahaska; and son, Mark (Twila) Lindsley, Ellsworth; and seven grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.

A private graveside service will be held at a future date.  Honorary pallbearers are her grandchildren, Summer Huncovsky, Justin Lindsley, Kristen Lindsley, Melissa Lindsley, Taylor Livingston, Niki Montry and Ryan Webb

A memorial fund is established and will be designated later.  Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home, Washington, KS.
