Marilyn A. Ohlde

Palmer, Kansas

Marilyn A. Ohlde, age 86, passed away Wednesday, August 12, 2025, at the Linn Community Nursing Home.

Visitation was held on Friday, August 15, at the St. John’s Lutheran Fellowship Hall, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The family received friends and family from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Palmer, Kansas. Rev. John Werner officiated.  Sheila Stuenkel was organist and the congregation sang "Amazing Grace," "I Know That My Redeemer Lives" and "How Great Thou Art."

Pallbearers were Tyler Knox, Daniel Nabors, Lucious Petesch, Benjamin Adams, Solly Vanouhlden and Roland Vanouhlden. Honorary pallbearers were Amanda Adams, Melissa Petesch, Kayla Ohlde, Nicole Ohlde, Ashley Nabors, Ava Petesch, Arya Petesch, Viola Vanouhlden, Evelyn Knox, Hannah Adams and Cadence Knox.

Burial was in the church cemetery.

Marilyn was born on June 29, 1939 to Hugo and Evelyn (Haemker) Arendt in Detroit, MI. In 1957, she graduated from Monroe High School in Monroe, MI and graduated from Winfield College in 1959. She earned her Bachelor of Education degree from Concordia University, Seward, Ne and went on to get her Master’s degree from Kansas State University.

On August 11, 1962, she married Larry Ohlde at Trinity Lutheran Church in Monroe, MI.

Marilyn taught special education and absolutely loved teaching. It was her life. She also love to travel, taking family vacations to see exciting places. Marilyn also enjoyed going on car rides with the family. While living in Michigan, she would go swimming in the great lakes and rock quarries.

Preceding her in death were her parents; stepfather, Kenneth Trouten; grandson, Cody Ohlde; brothers, Harold Arendt, Paul Arendt; sister-in-law, Mary Arendt and stepbrother, Wayne Trouten.

Survivors include her husband, Larry; daughters, Merv (Rowdy) Knox, Clifton, Angie (Jeremy) Nabors, Palmer; sons, Andy (Phyllis) Ohlde, Linn and Michael Paul Ohlde (Jessica) Vanouhlden, Belleville; stepsister, Barb Trouten Boss; stepbrother, Ollie (Karen) Trouten; and ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been designated to St. John’s Lutheran Church (organ fund). Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home, Washington, KS.
