Marcellene D. Bokelman, 90, Linn, died Thursday, April 9, 2026 at the Linn Community Nursing Home in Linn.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 12, 2026 with the family present at Ward Funeral Home in Linn.

A funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 13, 2026 at Zion Lutheran Church in Linn with Rev. Timothy Koch officiating.

Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery

Marcellene was born January 20, 1936 at rural Linn, to Theodore and Laura (Meyer) Herrs. She was baptized January 26 at Immanuel Lutheran Church by Pastor Paul Stolp and was confirmed April 2, 1950 at Immanuel Lutheran Church by Pastor Hobratsch. Marcellene attended Immanuel Lutheran School and graduated from Linn High School in 1954.

Marcellene was united in marriage to Dennis Bokelman at Immanuel Lutheran Church on September 29, 1957 by Pastor Kovac. After their marriage they moved to Waco, TX where Dennis was stationed in the Air Force until May 1960, when they moved back to Linn. They were blessed with a daughter, Barbara and son, Brent.

Marcellene worked at the Packing House, candling eggs before moving to Texas. When they moved back to Linn she worked at the Record Publishing Company, Linn Community Nursing Home and for twenty -six years at Linn High School Food Department.

She was an active member of Zion Dorcas Society and Wholmoor American Legion Auxiliary, serving on various committees and offices in both. Marcellene enjoyed cooking, working outside, in the yard and garden, taking bus trips to many states and Canada and attending the grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s activities and sporting events.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Dennis; infant son James Lynn; brother and sister-in-law, Berlin and Lola Herrs; brothers Lavern Herrs and Lowell Herrs; brother-in-law Jerry Bokelman; and sister-in-law and husband, LaDonna and Robert Rahe.

Survivors include daughter, Barbara (Ray Dean) Know, Clifton; son, Brent Bokelman, Linn; three grandchildren, Shandi (Jeremy) Slater, Shanna Joy and Dustin (Mistie) Knox; and ten great grandchildren, Madison Know, Maison and Mia Slater, Paige, Clay and Kate Joy, Kiara Kameron, Hudsyn and Gwyneth Knox; and sisters-in-law, Linda Herrs, Doris Herrs and Evelyn Bokelman.

A memorial fund is established to the Linn Lutheran School or Wholmoor American Legion. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home, PO Box 157, Washington, KS. 66968.
