Lila Mae Schaefer, 89, Linn, died Friday, October 26, 2018 at the Linn Community Nursing Home, Linn, Kan.A funeral service was 10 a.m., Tuesday, October 30, at Zion Lutheran Church, Linn.  Rev. David Gruoner officiated.  Organist was Eunice Beier and the congregation sang  “I’m But a Stranger Here,” “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” and “I Know That My Redeemer Lives.  Pallbearers were Shawn Schaefer, Brayden Schaefer, Brant Schaefer, Jered Schaefer, Trent Schaefer  and Nathan Schaefer.  Honorary pallbearers were Michael Colón, Adrian Fick, Jace Schaefer  and Aiden Proctor. Burial was in Zion Lutheran Cemetery.The family would like friends to join them for lunch after the commital service for lunch and fellowship at the church. Lila Mae Struber was born on May 25, 1929 to Henry and Amanda Struber on the home place west of Linn.  She was baptized on June 2, 1929 at the home of Rev. Karl Karstensen and confirmed on October 17, 1943 at St Paul’s Lutheran Church, Palmer, by Rev. Adolph Rink. Lila attended McAtee Grade School for 8 years and graduated from Linn Rural High School in 1946.  Her husband, LeRoy Schaefer, was in the same class.  She married LeRoy on May 2, 1948 at Zion Lutheran Church, Linn by Rev. W.G. Biel.  The couple was blessed with four sons, Neil LeRoy, Keith Wayne, Roger Kent and Gary Scott. Lila worked for Peters General Store, Linn Packing Plant and 23 years, as a cook for the Linn Community Nursing Home.  Lila and LeRoy were members of Immanuel Lutheran Church, after they moved to the farm west of Linn.  She was a member of LWML and Immanuel Society.  When LeRoy became paralyzed, they moved to Linn and transferred their membership to Zion Lutheran Church. Lila enjoyed cooking, baking, spending time with family and friends and tying quilts for foreign relief. She was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy, on July 2, 2006 and her parents. Survivors include sons, Neil (Catherine) Schaefer, Denton, TX, Keith (Susan) Schaefer, Linn, Roger (Alice) Schaefer, Jansen, NE, Gary Schaefer, Linn; sisters, Lorene Kenaston, Lola Allerheiligen, both of Linn; sister-in-law, Eva Helms, Linn; seven grandchildren, Sonja (Michael) Colón, Springfield, VA, Shawn (Kay) Schaefer, Clifton, Angela Griffin, Manhattan, Brayden (Bridget) Schaefer, Clay Center, Jennifer (Adrian) Fick, Oakland, CA, Brant (Catrina) Schaefer, Jered (Amanda) Schaefer, both of Beatrice, NE; thirteen great grandchildren, Emily (Jackson) Cooper, Rachel Colón, Trent, Nathan and Jace Schaefer, Catlyn and Rayna Schaefer, Wyatt Alexander, Aidan and Kendal Proctor and Maggie, Hannah and Josie Schaefer; and two great-great grandchildren, Brooklyn Schaefer and Amy Cooper. Memorial funds have been established to Zion Lutheran Church, Linn Community Nursing Home and the Lutheran Hour.  Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home, PO Box 157, Washington, Kansas 66968.
