Lila Jean (Ampe) McKienzie

Lila “Jean” (Ampe) McKienzie, 91, of Northglenn CO passed away October 23, 2021 at Park Regency Thornton in Thornton CO. There will be a celebration of life at Ward Funeral Home in Washington, on Monday December 27 at 10:00 a.m. Cara Herrs will officiate. Interment was at the Washington cemetery. Jean was born November 4, 1929 in Greenwood, WI to Albert and Bertha (Klein) Ampe. The family was living in Hope, KS and moved to Washington in late 1931. Jean attended school in Washington and graduated high school in 1947. She then attended Central Business College in Denver, CO, graduating in 1948. She went to work for Stanley Aviation as a bookkeeper for several years. After that, she worked at Frost Engineering, as an office manager, until she retired. On June 11, 1974, she married William “Bill” McKienzie. While in business college, she joined a service sorority, Beta Sigma Phi. She was a lifelong member of the Alpha Kappa Chapter in Denver. At one time, she was president of her chapter and served on the Denver City Council as a representative. Jean enjoyed traveling, dancing, reading, bowling, and watching sports of all kinds. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Bill McKienzie; brothers, Neil Ampe, Glen Ampe and wife Mary; brother-in-law, Hy Blockus; sister, Joyce and husband, Tom Tuttle; sister-in-law Susan Ampe; nephews Mark and David Ampe, Bruce and Charles “Hobie” Tuttle; nieces, Barbara Minor and Kathy Hamm. Survivors include brother, Allen Ampe, Edison, NJ; sisters, Betty Blockus, Palm Harbor, FL, Diane Giambeluca, Washington; nephews Mike Pond, Frank Ampe, Phillip Blockus and Paul Blockus; nieces Leigh Bergeron, Gayla Lewis, Debbie Mohr, Glenda Wheeler, Janet Chandler, Carla Jubel, Joyce Hollerbach, Melanie Cook, Francesca Giambeluca, Angela Giambeluca; Valerie Weiche Kathy Blockus and Paige Shearn; thirty-one grand and four great grand nieces and nephews. A memorial fund is established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home, Washington.
