Lester L. Wiese, 84, Linn, died Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at Cambridge Place in Marysville. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, December 4 at Ward Funeral Home in Linn. Masks are required. A private graveside funeral service with the immediate family, will be 10 a.m, Saturday, December 5 at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Linn. Lester was born at Hanover to Otto and Sophia (Lindhorst) Wiese on August 18, 1936. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran in Hanover. He attended school in Hanover and graduated in 1955 from Linn High School. On October 14, 1956, he married Janet Hornbostel at St. Paul Lutheran, Palmer. He served with the US Air Force from 1956 to 1960. Lester worked for the Washington County Coop Creamery after returning from the service. He then went on to work in the maintenance department as a rail inspector, for Missouri Pacific Railroad. They later merged with Union Pacific Railroad and he retired after 27 ½ years. Lester was a lifetime member of the Marshall County Historical Railroad Club. His train stories were endless and his train history lessons were enjoyed by many, but the best was his train upstairs in his home. The grandchildren and great grandchildren would be thrilled to get grandpa upstairs to start the engine and let the stories begin, with many smiles and sounds of laughter. The great grandchildren loved their Train Pa. He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Linn and the Linn American Legion. Preceding him in death were his parents; infant brothers, Vernon and Henry; and brothers, Leroy and Lloyd. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Janet; children, Gary (Pamala) Wiese, Palmer, Mark Wiese, Clay Center, Debra (Mike) Rogge, Linn; grandchildren, Clinton (Lesli) Wiese, Colby (Dustin) Richter, Staci Wiese, Jessica (Travis) Palmer, Brandon Wiese, Amanda (Mac) Clasen, Adam (Jamie) Rogge; thirteen great grandchildren; sister, Mary Thomas, Washington; and sisters-in-law, Marilyn Wiese, Linn, Joyce Wiese, Salina and Mary Lou (Ronnie) Lange, Salina. A memorial fund is established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home, Washington.
