Lee Gauby, 90, Washington, died Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at the Washington County Hospital, Washington. Visitation will be held from noon until 8 p.m., Friday, May 11 at Ward Funeral Home, Washington. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 12, at Ward Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Washington City Cemetery. Lee Aaron Gauby was born on the family farm, rural Washington, on April 16, 1928 to Lester and Inez (Byrd) Gauby. He attended Fairview Country School from 1st – 8th grade and graduated from Washington High School in 1946. In 1951, he entered the U.S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1953. Lee returned to the farm and was a lifelong farmer/stockman. He was the 5th generation to live on the family farm and his son Gary is the 6th generation. On June 21, 1954, Lee married Darlene Rice at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greenleaf. They had three children, Teresa, Les and Gary. Lee loved tending his cattle and horses and attending the area cattle sales. He was president of the Saddle Club and was instrumental in getting started the Washington County Rodeo, in 1973. He was a life time member of the American Legion and the FFA Alumni. Lee served on the school board and was a member of Kansas Livestock Assn. Preceding him in death were his parents. Survivors include his wife, Darlene; sons, Les (Terri) Gauby, Gary (Patrica) Gauby, both of Washington; daughter, Teresa (Ben) With, Greenleaf; brother Lyle (Pat) Gauby, Salina; and eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. A memorial fund has been established to the Washington County Hospital or the Washington County Fire Department. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home.
