LaVerna J. Hatesohl

July 19, 1930 — January 20, 2020

LaVerna J. Hatesohl, 89, of Linn, KS, died January 20, 2020 at Independent Living in Lawrence, KS. A funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 25 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church near Greenleaf. Rev. Matthew Durance officiated.  Jerod Hatesohl was organist and the congregation sang "Lift High the King," "The Strife is O'er" and "All Christians Who Have Been Baptized." Pallbearers were Brian Hatesohl, Chris Mosher, Tyler Hatesohl, John Hatesohl, Firman Brandt and Richard McLaughlin.  Honorary Pallbearers were Laura McLaughlin, Laura Hatesohl and Niece and Nephews. Burial was in the church cemetery. LaVerna was born July 19, 1930 in Palmer, Kansas, the daughter of Herman and Caroline  (Brandt) Lange. She grew up on the family farm in the Palmer community. LaVerna attended Palmer grade school and graduated from Linn High School in 1948. A graduate of Kansas State University, she began her elementary school teaching career in Washington, Ks. On August 22, 1954, LaVerna married Delmar Hatesohl at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Palmer. They celebrated their 65th anniversary last year with a family gathering. LaVerna and Delmar moved to Columbia, MO in 1954. She obtained a Masters in education from the University of Missouri and taught 5th grade for many years in the Columbia Public Schools. LaVerna and Delmar retired to Linn. For many years, LaVerna & Delmar enjoyed international travel. She was privileged to visit more than 50 countries and was especially fond of her time in Africa. Upon retirement, LaVerna enjoyed researching family genealogy. She compiled significant records on several family branches. She spent considerable time tracking German family heritage and had fond relationships with family members in Germany. LaVerna maintained a keen interest in international matters, politics, birds, elephants, coffee, and the St. Louis Cardinals. LaVerna was especially close to her grandchildren and great granddaughter, “Little Toots”. She relished being a friend and mentor to all of them. LaVerna was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by husband, Delmar, son Kent (Brenda) Hatesohl of Lawrence, KS, daughter Beth (Dan) Mosher of The Woodlands, TX, grandchildren Brian (Laura) Hatesohl, Laura (Richard) McLaughlin, Chris Mosher, and Tyler Hatesohl, great granddaughter, Emma McLaughlin. A memorial fund has been established to the Linn American Legion Endowment or Bethlehem Lutheran Church.  Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home, 115 W 2nd, Washington, KS  66968.
