Ladonna K. Hornkohl, 67, of Palmer, KS, died April 6, 2022 at the Linn Community Nursing Home in Linn, KS. Visitation will be Sunday, April 10, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Ward Funeral Home in Linn. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 11, at St. John's Lutheran Church near Palmer. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Ladonna was born July 6, 1954, at Washington, KS, to Edgar and Darlene (Bargman) Wienck. At a young age her father died and her mother later married Ross Savage and they were parents to her and her siblings. She was baptized July 25, 1954 and confirmed April 7, 1968 at St. Peters Lutheran Church, Barnes. In 1972, she graduated from Linn High School. On April 14, 1973, Ladonna was united in marriage to Gerald “Jerry” Hornkohl at St. Peters Church. Ladonna worked at Twin Valley Development in Greenleaf for many years as a job coach, house parent and in medical records. In the early 2000’s, Jerry and Ladonna drove a truck together and Ladonna enjoyed the time they spent on the road. In 2003, Jerry passed away and she went back to Twin Valley Development. Ladonna has also worked for Linn Community Nursing Home and the Clay Center Hospital. She drove for Twin Valley General Transportation until recently when she was diagnosed with cancer. Ladonna was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and a Hospice volunteer. She liked reading, cooking and traveling with friends. Preceding her in death were her parents, Edgar Wienck, Ross Savage and Darlene Savage; husband, Jerry Hornkohl; sister, Pat Savage; and daughter-in-law, T.J. Hornkohl. Survivors include her children, Callie (Brad) Ohlde, Linn, Karla (Jeremy) Sweet, Clay Center, KS, James (Erin) Hornkohl, Blue Rapids, and Danny (Debi) Hornkohl, Palmer; sisters, Jan Baker, Greenacres, FL, Sue Ownbey, Catlin, IL, and Beth (Randy) Meyer, Palmer; brother, Ralph (Sarah) Wienck, Marysville, KS; fourteen grandchildren, Morgan (D.J.) Wurtz, Kaitlin Ohlde, Tyler Ohlde, Emilee Sweet, Aiden Sweet, Angel (Kendell) Dorgan, Caleb Hornkohl, Destiney Mcloed, Takotah Mcloed, Stormy Mcloed, Emmerich Hornkohl, Lisa Huff, Lane (Kaela) Huff and Lacey Huff; four great-grandchildren, Weston Wurtz, Keeler Huff, Braxton Huff and Axel Huff; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial fund has been established to the Linn Lutheran School. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home.
