John "Jeep" F. Walter

John F. "Jeep" Walter, aged 78, peacefully passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2024, at the Community Hospital in Onaga.
 
Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 29, 2024, at Ward Funeral Home in Washington. The funeral service, officiated by Pastor Shannon Borgman, took place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 30, 2024, also at Ward Funeral Home. A private burial will be conducted at a later time.

Honorary pallbearers were Rip, Steve Hawk, Wyatt York, Bennett York, Todd Walter, Kevin Walter, Robert Tremblay, Todd Hynek, Brad Russell, Mike Russell, Ray Gross and Dalton Pfannenstiel.

Jeep was born on November 26, 1945, in Washington to Clarence and Alice (Donohue) Walter. He received his education in Washington before embarking on a career with the International Union of Operating Engineers #101 as a skilled crane operator. His work took him across the United States, including Alaska, and he contributed to notable projects such as the Jeffrey Energy Center and Wolf Creek Generating Station.
 
Jeep found joy in hunting, fishing, gardening and hunting morels during his leisure time. He cherished moments spent on the farm, alongside his beloved dog Bozo and spending time with close friends.  Jeep also loved  Friday night lights, watching his grandsons play football.
 
Remembering him with love are his daughter Letica York of Wamego; brother Donald (Sparrow) Walter of Washington; sisters Ann Hawk of Washington and Sarah Russell of Lawrence; Margaret (Max) Werner of Beatrice, NE; and his three grandchildren McKinzie, Wyatt, and Bennett York.
 
He is preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Alice; a son; brothers Richard "Augie" Walter and Robert "Admiral" Walter; infant sister Nancy Walter; and sister Connie Snyder; sister-in-law, Rosa Lee Walter; and brother-in-law, Leonard Russell.
 
Expressions of sympathy can be made through contributions to a memorial fund that will be designated at a later date. The family kindly requests that those who knew Jeep share a brief story or memory along with their condolences. Contributions and stories can be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home in Washington.
