Hilda Rita Marie Shannon, 89, Washington, died Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at the Linn Community Nursing Home in Linn, KS.
Visitation was Monday, December 30, 2024, from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Ward Funeral Home in Washington. A vigil service followed at 7 p.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Washington.
A funeral service was held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, December 31, at St. Augustine Catholic Church.
Burial took place in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Greenleaf.
Hilda was born on August 11, 1935, in St. Peter KS to Fredoline and Barbara (Dinkel) Brungardt. As a child, her family moved to Washington, KS via Fairbury, NE. In 1954, she graduated from Washington High School. While she was in school, she met the love of her life Danny Shannon and they married in June of 1954. This union was blessed with two children, Helen and Thomas.
Hilda worked for many years at Swirly Top Steak House and Linn Community Nursing Home. She enjoyed her vegetable and flower gardens. Hilda self-taught herself to quilt and made numerous quilts for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Danny in 1989; grandson, Nicholas Shannon; sisters, Leona Ouellette and Martina Brungardt; and brothers, Alvin Brungardt, Marvin Brungardt; brother-in-law, Delphos Ouellette; and sisters-in-law, Marilyn Brungardt and Janice Brungardt.
Left to cherish her memories are daughter, Helen (Larry) Welch; son, Tom Shannon; brother, Melvin Brungardt; and grandchildren, Trisha (Chad) Parrack, Kimberly (Don) Kamphaus, Jeffery Welch, Monica Shannon Smith; and great-grandchildren, Kaden, Kyleigh, Aaron, Gage, Megan, Ashlyn and Jaden; plus many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She will be greatly missed by all.
A memorial fund is established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home, PO Box 157, Washington, KS 66968.
