Harold Leo Huber 94, rural Mahaska, passed away peacefully at his home on February 26, 2026.

Visitation was held on Friday, March 6, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Ward Funeral Home, Washington with family present from 5 to 7 p.m.

A rosary service was held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Washington followed by the funeral service at 10:30 a.m..  Father David Metz and Father Mark Huber officiated. The organist was Sheila Ouellette and soloist was Tish Lienemann. Hymn selections included"How Great Thou Art," "Amazing Grace," "Oh Jesus, We Adore Thee" and "Holy God, We Praise Thy Name."

Burial was in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery, Morrowville, KS

Harold was born January 20, 1932, in Fairbury, NE to Charles and Theresa (Nutsch) Huber. He was raised with the strong values of faith, family and hard work that guided him throughout his life.

Harold proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1953 to 1954 during the Korean War. During his service, he was awarded the Korean Service Medal with one bronze service star, the United Nations Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Following his active duty, he was released from active military service and transferred to the Army Reserve to complete a total of eight years of service.

After returning home from the war, Harold met the love of his life, Frieda Riddle at a dance in Haddam. The couple was united in marriage on October 22, 1955 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Fairbury, NE. Together they built a life grounded in faith and family and were blessed with eight children.

Harold was a lifelong farmer who worked the land, raising crops and livestock. Farming was not just his occupation but his way of life. He was known for his gift of conversation – he loved to talk, tell stories and reminisce with anyone who stopped by. His kitchen table and front steps were places of laughter, storytelling and connection.

Preceding him death were his parents; wife, Frieda; sons, Sammy Huber and Dennis Huber; brother, Lawrence Huber; and sister, Rita Carlstead.

Survivors include his children, Paul (Tina) Huber, Freeport, TX, James Huber, Thompson, NE, Charles (Lori) Huber, Morrowville, Richard Huber and Larry Huber, both of Mahaska; and daughter, Mary Poe, Texas; grandchildren, Adam Huber, Abby Huber, Brad Nelson, Paul Huber, Heather Lightner, Travis Huber, Angela Boland, Kyle Boston, Nicole Boston, Hallie Martinez, Jesse Huber and Orin Huber; along with many great grandchildren, extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory.

Harold’s life was defined by service to his country, to his land, and most importantly to his family. His legacy of hard work, faith, storytelling and devotion will live on in all who knew and loved him.
