George Irwin King, 89, Wichita, died Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Founders Crest Nursing Home, Wichita.Family will receive friends from 1 until 3 p.m., Wednesday, May 2, at Ward Funeral Home, Washington.A graveside funeral service will be 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 2 at the Washington City Cemetery. George was born December 19, 1928 to Irwin S. and Leona (Baldwin) King at Delphos. He graduated Linn High School in 1945. On November 19, 1950, he was united in marriage to Gladys Ruth Dodd. George served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1953. George lived many places with his work, setting up substations. They lived in Park Forest, IL until 1973, before moving back to Wichita. George liked being outdoors, watching westerns, woodworking and restoring antique pianos and furniture. He volunteered driving for Red Cross around southern Kansas. Preceding him in death were his parents; infant daughter, Sharon Kay King; three granddaughters; brother, Gerald King; and a sister, Colleen Cox. Survivors include his wife, Gladys; sons, Steve (Linda) King, New Albany, Ind., David (Kathy) King, Piney Flats, Tenn., Dennis (Elena) King, Wichita, Mark (Tina) King, Hillsboro, Kevin (Chris) King, Portland, Ore.; eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A memorial fund is established to the American Red Cross or donate blood in his name. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home.
