Frieda V. Huber, 90, Mahaska, died February 21, 2023 at Cedarwood Senior Living in Fairbury, NE. She was born November 14, 1932 on the farm in rural Gilead, NE to Harold and Mabel (Maxwell) Riddle. On October 22, 1955, she was united in marriage to Harold Huber at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Fairbury, NE. This union was blessed with eight children. Frieda was a homemaker and a farm wife. She loved to garden and bake. She was well known for her homemade cherry pies, bread, cinnamon rolls and making brownies with her nieces and grandchildren. They had their own cherry trees on the farm and the family helped her pick cherries then enjoyed the pies after. She always wore an apron, even in the garden and would fill the pockets with the produce. She enjoyed songbirds and dancing, she met Harold at one of the local dances. Frieda also looked forward to Christmas shopping with her sister Alice, they always had a wonderful time. Preceding her in death were her parents; and sons, Sammy Huber and Dennis Huber; brothers, Fred, Glenn, John, Harold, and Franklin Dale Riddle; and sisters, Margaret Cawley and Alice Wells; a cousin that lived with the family and was like a sister, Esther Davies. Survivors include her husband, Harold; sons, Paul (Tina) Huber, Freeport, TX, James Huber, Thompson, NE, Charles (Lori) Huber, Morrowville, Richard Huber and Larry Huber, both of Mahaska; daughter, Mary Poe, Katy, TX; a cousin that lived with the family and was like a sister, Jo’Ann Kissell; and grandchildren, Adam Huber, Abby Huber, Brad Nelson, Paul Huber, Heather Huber, Travis Huber, Angela Boland, Kyle Boston, Nicole Boston, Hallie Martinez, Jesse Huber, and Orin Huber; and great grandchildren, Anna Huber, Magnolia Cisneros, Olivia Lightner, Raelyn Boland, Phaedra Rylander, Ryan Bell, and Rowen Huber. Visitation was from 1 until 5 p.m., Thursday, February 23, 2023, at Ward Funeral Home in Washington, followed by a 7 p.m. vigil service at St. Augustine Catholic Church. A funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Friday, February 24, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Washington. Burial was in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery, north of Morrowville.
