Florence McGrath

Florence McGrath, 96, formerly of Greenleaf, died July 6, 2025, at Crestone Assisted Living in Olathe, KS.

A funeral service was held at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 12, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church near Greenleaf, KS, with Rev. Randy Jahnke officiating. The organist was Barbara Jahnke, and hymn selections included “How Great Thou Art,” “Old Rugged Cross,” and “Amazing Grace.”

Pallbearers were Chad Jewell, Michael Jewell, Chris Neal, Joe Roher, Austin Harrison, and John McGrath.

Burial was in Greenleaf City Cemetery.

Florence was born to Fred and Mary (Wendt) Niemann on May 27, 1929, on the family farm north of Hanover, KS. She attended school up to the 8th grade and then took care of her mother when she became ill.

On April 29, 1954, Florence was united in marriage to Clifford McGrath at Helena, MT. This union was blessed with two daughters, Barbara and Kathy. Florence worked for Greenleaf Café and Farmers M&M. She and Cliff owned and operated McGrath Oil in Greenleaf for several years until retiring.

Family was very important to her, and she hosted many extended family dinners for all the major holidays. Florence was especially proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Clifford, on March 31, 2001; and brothers, Henry, Wilfred, Wilmer, Walter, and infant Frederick; sisters, Marie Mishey, Martha Koeneke, Selma Kolle, Mildred Stigge, and Loretta Stigge.

Survivors include daughters, Barbara (Robert) Jewell, Olathe, and Kathy (Merrill “Butch”) McCue, Auburn; sisters, Norma Haley, Topeka, and Verla Harrison, Hanover; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A memorial fund is established to Juvenile Diabetes Research - Children's Mercy. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home, Washington, KS.
