Elsa Mary Kathryn (Kolle) Carlyle, 101, Linn, died Monday, May 14, 2018 at the Leonardville Nursing Home, Leonardville, Kan.The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Sunday, May 20 at Ward Funeral Home in Linn.A funeral service was held at 10 a.m., Monday, May 21 at the Zion Lutheran Church, Linn.Burial was in Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Elsa was born August 9, 1916 to William and Anna (Beikmann) Kolle at Linn, Kan. and was baptized the same day. Elsa attended Immanuel Lutheran School, Linn, KS. and was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church, on March 29, 1931. As a young woman, Elsa served as a Midwife in her home area. By 1939 she had moved to Wichita, KS where she was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Wichita. Elsa worked for Cessna where she upholstered pilot’s seats of single and double engine aircraft and did bombers during WWII. On September 11, 1942 she married Bert Carlyle at Newton, KS. Elsa and Bert lived in Wichita until April 1974 when they moved to Linn. There she became a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church. Elsa loved flowers. Many hours were spent with her flowers, which was visible to all who passed her home. And for special occasions, Elsa was sure to receive beautiful flower arrangements from her loved ones. Preceding her in death were her parents; infant sister, infant brother; husband Bert Carlyle; step-sons Bert Carlyle, Thomas Carlyle, Arthur Carlyle and Laurance Carlyle; step-daughters Charlene Easum and Robbie Criss; step-grandson Robert Easum; brother Clarence Kolle; sister Florence Voelker; and brother-in-law, Victor Voelker. Survivors include her step-daughter Patricia Hackathorn, Spring City, TN; many step-grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and great-great-great grandchildren; and her faithful nephews and nieces: Jim (Carol) Voelker, Joel (Tammy) Voelker, all of Palmer, Patricia (Neal) Koch, Utica, NE, Judith (Darell) Strickler, Fresno, CA and Idonna (Ed) Schmieding, Gresham, NE. A memorial fund is established to the Linn Lutheran School. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home.
