Edgar Loren Helms, 92, Linn, died Saturday, October 17, 2020 at the Linn Community Nursing Home. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, October 23 at Ward Funeral Home in Linn, KS. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, October 24 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, west of Linn. Masks are recommended. Pastor Richard Rikli will officiate. Amanda Beikmann is the organist and the congregation will sing “The Lord is My Shepherd,” “I Am But a Stranger Here” and “I Know That My Redeemer Lives.” Pallbearers will be Herbert Hartman, Harvey Helms, Alan Helms, Doug Beikmann, Scott Helms and Kevin Helms. Honorary pallbearers are Brantlee Helms and Kwinlee Helms. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Edgar was born May 13, 1928, the sixth child of Herman and Bertha (Moorman) Helms at rural Linn, Kansas. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church and attended Immanuel Lutheran School, graduating from the 8th grade. On March 9, 1951, Edgar was drafted into the Army, where he served for one year and nine months, also serving overseas in the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged on December 8, 1952 and started farming on his parents’ farm. Edgar was united in marriage to Betty Ann Meier on October 18, 1953 at St. Johns Lutheran Church, rural Palmer. This union was blessed with three children, Gary, Sharon and Mark. Edgar retired from farming in 2000 and continued living on the family farm until being admitted to the Linn Community Nursing Home. Edgar was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and served in many different capacities, including mixed choir, men’s club, LLL, just to mention a few. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Betty in 2012; daughter, Sharon Ruth Helms; son, Mark William; and five brothers and one sister. Survivors include son, Gary, Clay Center; two grandsons, Scott Helms and girlfriend, Amber Stephenson, Kevin (Chelsie) Helms both of Clay Center; two great grandchildren, Kwinlee and Brantlee Helms; sisters-in-law, Lois Meier, Alliance, NE, Sonya Meier, Clyde; along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
