Deanna Ruth Meier, 68, Palmer, died Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at her home. Visitation was Friday, October 12, from 3 until 8 p.m. at Ward Funeral Home, Linn, Kan. The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m.A funeral service was 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 13, 2018 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Palmer. Rev. David Gruoner and Rev. Gene Holtorf officiated. Sheila Stuenkel was organist and the congregation sang “Jesus Christ My Sure Defense,” “Be Still My Soul,” “When Peace Like a River” and “I Know That My Redeemer Lives.” Pallbearers were Jared Meier, Evan Meier, Nate Sudbeck, Richard Rodehorst, Royce Rogge, Kevin Hartman, Travis Meier and Mark Meier.Burial was in the church cemetery. Deanna was born August 15, 1950 at Clay Center, Kan. to Albert and Edna (Wilkens) Rodehorst. She attended Zion Lutheran School, Linn and graduated from Linn High School in 1968. On November 29, 1975, she married Steven Meier at Zion Lutheran Church, Linn. The Lord blessed the couple with three children, Jared, Evan and Amanda. Deanna was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, where she had served as Sunday School Superintendent and on the Banner and Landscape Committees. She had also been a silent member of the LWML. She was a homemaker and was employed as a seamstress. Deanna served as a 4-H leader for crocheting and knitting. She enjoyed gardening, especially working with flowers. She was artistic in many ways and loved cooking, sewing and crocheting. But her greatest enjoyment was time spent with her grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents. Survivors include her husband, Steve; sons, Jared (Theresa) Meier, Palmer, Evan (Traci) Meier, Clifton; daughter, Amanda (Nate) Sudbeck, Seneca; sisters, Mary (Jim) Hartman, Clifton, Joyce (Greg) Winter, Palmer; brother, Richard (Dinah) Rodehorst, Downs; and eight grandchildren, Elijah Meier, Nolan Meier, Grace Meier, Jase Meier, Emma Meier, Alyvia Sudbeck, Grant Sudbeck and Reid Sudbeck; and was “Aunt Annie” to many nieces and nephews. A memorial fund is established to St. John's Lutheran Church. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home.
