Charles Walter Flear, 79, Greenleaf, died Friday, November 26, 2021 at the Washington County Hospital. Visitation will be held Friday, December 3, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Ward Funeral Home in Greenleaf. A Graveside funeral service will be 3 p.m., Saturday, December 4 at the Greenleaf City Cemetery. Charlie was born February 5, 1942 to Claude and Freda (Latham) Flear in Concordia, KS. He attended school in Greenleaf and graduated Greenleaf High School. Charlie went to work for the Kansas State Highway Department in 1961 until he joined the Army in January of 1964. He served in Vietnam in 1965 and was honorably discharged in January 1966. Charlie returned to Greenleaf and worked for KDOT until retiring in 1995. Charlie was a proud member of the Greenleaf American Legion Shaw Post 235 and the Washington VFW 7437. He enjoyed his motorcycles and loved spending time with his friends. After retirement, he enjoyed driving around Greenleaf and Washington, just to see what was going on. Charlie liked mowing and had a passion for trees. He planted as many as would fit in his yard and loved tending to them. He loved watching old western tv shows and movies. Preceding him in death were his parents; and infant twin brother, Harold. Survivors include his close cousin, Sally Marcum, Burbank, CA; and many friends. A memorial fund is established and will be designated later.
