April 22, 1935 — June 2, 2020

Betty Ilene Zimmerman, 85, died Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at the Linn Community Nursing Home, Linn. Visitation will be from 1 until 8 p.m., Friday, June 5 at Ward Funeral Home, Washington. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 6 at Ward Funeral Home, Washington. Jill Duis PMA will officiate. Sheila Ouellette is organist and Rebekah Ostermann will sing "Amazing Grace," "In the Garden" and "How Great Thou Art." Pallbearers are Robert Guest, Leon Rumsey, Dan Cook Jr., Daniel Perales, Joseph Perales, Thayden Farmer, Danny Cook III and Jackson Schumacher. Honorary pallbearers are Elisha Guest, Michelle Rumsey, Erica Hinkle, Rebekah Cook, Delona Torres, Jordyn Schaefer, Allie Rumsey, Daleigha Farmer and Andrea Cook. Burial will be in the Marysville City Cemetery, Marysville, Kansas. Betty I. Zimmerman was born April 22, 1935, to John Earl and Thelma Ruth (Betterton) Gose in Frankfort, KS, and grew up in the Marshall County area. Betty attended rural schools in Marshall County, ending her education in Frankfort. On August 3, 1952, Betty was united in marriage to Virgil D. Zimmerman, of Marysville. They started their married life in Marysville. To this union, three daughters were born. Betty started her career working as a cook and waitress, later switching to the motel business. In 1965, Betty and Virgil moved to Washington, KS where she managed the K-Motel. In 1978, they purchased the K-Motel, where she remained until her move to the Linn Community Nursing Home in August, 2017. Throughout her life, Betty enjoyed dancing, yodeling, roller skating, water skiing, and a good game of pinochle. She especially enjoyed sewing, needlework, cooking, flowers, being outdoors, and spending time with her family. Betty is survived by her daughters, Deborah Swoboda and Connie (Don) Imhoff of Washington, son-in-law Steve Hinkle of Wichita; granddaughters Elisha (Robert) Guest, Newton, Michelle (Leon) Rumsey, Washington, Erica Hinkle, Andover, Rebekah (Dan) Cook, Wamego; great grandkids, Delona (Uriel) Torres, Newton, Daniel (Keana) Perales, Park City, Jordyn (Trent) Schaefer, Linn, Daleigha Farmer, Andover, Joseph Perales, Newton, Danny Cook III, Manhattan, Thayden Farmer, Andover, Allie Rumsey, Washington, Jackson Schumacher, Andover, Andrea Cook, Wamego and a new one on the way; great-great grandkids Giovani, Liliana and Ismael Torres, Elleana Perales, Brooklyn and Brynlee Schaefer, Rylann Brannan, Lakynn Cook, and a new one on the way. She is also survived by a sister, Louise Herring, Independence; brothers, Jerry Gose Sr., Beatrice, NE, Donald (Debby) Gose, Winfield, and David (Dianna) Gose, Waterloo, NE and sisters-in-law May Gose, Lincoln, NE, and Debbie Gose, Junction City along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil, on August 3, 1987, and oldest daughter, Patricia Hinkle, on August 2, 2018. Also preceding her in death are her parents and siblings Jack Gose, Leota Wassenberg and Alvin Gose. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Alzheimer’s Association and the Linn Community Nursing Home. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home, Washington.
