Betty Wiemers, 73, Washington, died April 20, 2023 at the Linn Community Nursing Home in Linn. Visitation will be Friday, April 28, from 1 to 8 p.m. at Ward Funeral Home in Washington. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 29, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Greenleaf. Burial will be in the Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery, Greenleaf. On August 19, 1949, Betty was born to Lawrence and Vera (Cairns) Bierbaum in Marysville, KS. She was united in marriage to Jerry Wiemers on January 25, 1970 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Greenleaf. They were blessed with six children, Bryan, Sheryl, John, Christina, Michele and Scott. Betty was a jack of all trades, was a farm wife, drove a school bus, was a 4-H Leader and ran the 4-H food stand at the fair, for several years. Betty was a cook at many restaurants and a server. One time while waiting tables, she waited on the Oak Ridge Boys, not knowing who they were until they went to leave and gave her pictures of them. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and helped with Vacation Bible School. Family was important to her and she loved attending special events her children and grandchildren were part of. Preceding her in death, her husband, Jerry on October 3, 2022; parents; sister, Ann Usher; and brothers, David Bierbaum, Walter Bierbaum and Paul Bierbaum. Survivors include her sons, Bryan (Linda) Wiemers, Augusta, John (Kayla Wilson) Wiemers, Augusta and Scott (Elizabeth Hunter) Wiemers, Emporia; daughters, Sheryl (Jace and Morgan Garrison) Wiemers, Emporia, Christina (Steve) Murdock, Beatrice, NE and Michele (Ron Disney) Wiemers, Americus; sisters-in-law, Pat Bierbaum, Faye (Leon) Hagan and Arlene (Melvyn) Miller, and brothers-in-law, Keith Wiemers and Delwin (Karen) Wiemers; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. A memorial fund is established to the Linn Community Nursing Home. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home.
