Adelbert Stewart

Adelbert E. Stewart, 88, of Washington, KS, died July 27, 2020 at the Washington County Hospital. Visitation was Wednesday, July 29, from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Ward Funeral Home in Washington. The family received friends from 5 to 6:30 p.m. A funeral service was at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 30, at Ward Funeral Home, Washington. Pastor Darel Boston officiated. Organist was Gay Lynn Manning and the congregation sang “Precious Lord Take My Hand” and “Amazing Grace.” Pallbearers were Kent Stewart, Gregg Stewart, Paul Stewart, Kevin Moser, Ashley Stewart and Ryan Stewart. Honorary pallbearers were Ted Bruna, Lee Pifer, Harvey Krause, Ric Johnson, Paul Jueneman, Leo Schwartz and Lawrence Herrs. Burial was in the Washington City Cemetery. Adelbert was born November 5, 1931 in rural Washington to Raymond and Faye (Tegethoff) Stewart. He attended Emmons School and graduated Washington High School in 1949. On May 9, 1954, he was united in marriage to Lavone Moser at the Methodist Church in Hollenberg. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1956. Adelbert returned to Washington and farmed. Over the years, he raised row crops, cattle, hogs and horses. He was a member of the American Legion, Cattleman’s Association and the Methodist Church and a life member of the FFA Alumni. He served on the Franklin Township Board and the Washington County Fair Board. Preceding him in death were his parents; daughter, Shari Ann; brother-in-law, Don Moser; and sister-in-law, Wanda Stewart. Survivors include his wife, Lavone; son, Rod (Kannette) Stewart, Washington; brothers, Norman (Marcella Holbrook) Stewart, Conrad (Gena) Stewart, both of Washington; sister Sylvia (Neil) Baird, Overland Park; grandchildren, Ashley Stewart, Manhattan, Ryan Stewart, Washington; Many nieces and nephews and friends. A memorial fund is established to the Washington County FFA Chapter. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home.
