Letha Mooren, 92, passed away December 2, 2010 at the Homestead Nursing Home in Washington, Kansas. A funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 11 at Ward Funeral Home in Washington. Pastor John Frey officiated. Recorded music by Dr. James Smart included "How Great Thou Art" and "Beyond the Sunset". The honorary pallbearers were Brian Stratton, Gary Stratton and Todd Stratton. Letha Louise Mooren, born fifth child of Harry and Verta (Seaver) Cairo on October 26, 1918 in Doniphan, Ks. She lived most of her 92 years in the Washington community. As a homemaker, she was a wonderful cook, seamstress, gardener, and loved flowers. In 1950 she helped start up the Washington school hot lunch program and enjoyed many years in various women's clubs in Enosdale, Morrowville, and Washington communities. She worked as a nursing assistant at Washington Co. Hospital eight years. In retirement, she and her husband Lawrence enjoyed camping, grandchildren, and wintering in Texas and Florida. She is preceeded in death by her parents; seven siblings; two grandchildren; a son, Alan; and her husband, Lawrence in 2004. She is survived by a daughter, Donna Stratton, Olathe, Kansas; two sons, Leroy Nocks, Morrisville, Missouri, Larry Nocks, Lake in the Hills, Illinois; ten grandsons, three granddaughters, and many great-grandchildren. A memorial has been established and will be designated by the family at a later time. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home.
