Lois M. Steier

Lois Marie Steier, 93, of Washington, KS, died Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at the Homestead Nursing Home in Washington. A rosary service was held at 7 p.m. Friday evening at the church. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 20 at the church. Father David Metz officiated. Sheila Ouellette was the organist and the cantor, Christy L’Ecuyer led the congregation singing, “Amazing Grace”, “Just As I Am”, and “Beyond the Sunset”. “Beer Barrel Polka” was also played. Burial was in St. Bernard's Cemetery near Clara, KS. Pallbearers were Guy Steier, Bill Kern, Paul Keller, Tyler Kern, Rod Blaha, Ryan Kern, Todd Baker and Adam Kern. Honorary pallbearers were Dianne Smith, Lou Kern, Rita Steier, John Steier, Carol Alexander, Dale Steier, Eddie Amici, Cleo Mayer, Larry Steier, Edwin Steier, Judy Grutsch, Denise New, Jimmy Amici, Rev. Charles Steier and Harry Peterson Jr. Lois was born August 26, 1917 at Clara, Kansas to Peter P. and Rosa (Straub) Steier. She worked in Herrington before returning to Washington to live. Lois was preceded in death by her brothers, Melvin, Edward, Leo and Romanus; sisters, Agnes Wilson, Viola Amici, Gladys Keller, Theresa Smith and Velma Barto. Surviving her is a sister, Lorene Peterson; a brother Joe Steier; and nieces and nephews. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated at a later date.
