Leigh Ann DeVol

Leigh Ann DeVol, 54, of Washington, KS, died Thursday, September 16, 2010 at the Washington County Hospital. A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 20, at the Morrowville Christian Church. Pastor Ron Brown and Pastor Andrew Lucas officiated. Music included "Come to Jesus" and "You are Holy". The pallbearers were Tyler Kern, Joel Elder, Adam Kern, Ryan Kern, Casey Huckett, Thad Wiemers, Kyle Wolfgang and Chris Montague. The honorary pallbearers were Dusty Meier and Brent Rogge. Burial was in the Washington City Cemetery. Leigh was born October 15, 1955 at Washington, KS, the daughter of Lester and Shirley (Johnson) Ayers. She graduated from Washington High School and later attended Southeast Community College and Cloud County Community College. She received an Associate of Nursing Degree. Leigh worked as a nurse at several area hospitals. She loved spending time outdoors, growing flowers, reading, crocheting, sewing and refinishing furniture. Leigh was active in her children’s interests, sporting events and church. She was always there to help others. Her step mother, Bernice, preceded her in death. Survivors include her mother, Shirley Walter and husband Charles, Washington; father, Lester Ayers, Washington; two sons, Scott Weber and David Weber, both of Washington; daughter, Shannon DeVol, Hays; one sister, Shirley Frager and husband Gerry, Morrowville; two brothers, David Ayers and wife Becky, Tonganoxie, James “Jim” Ayers, Washington; one step brother, Chuck Walter and wife Michelle, Washington; two step sisters, Tammy Kuehn, Washington, Jo Ann Rose and husband Dewayne, Mahaska; nieces and nephews. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated at a later date. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home.
