Alvin "Pete" Back

Alvin Back, age 86 of Washington passed away Tuesday morning, July 6, 2010 at the Washington County Hospital. He was born January 10, 1924 in Washington county the sone of William E and Grace Annette (Hedding) Back. He attended 1st thru 8th grade and Excelsior, District 124 in Washington County. Pete worked on the family farm. He served in the U.S. Navy, WT3rd Class and was honorably discharged in 1946. Alvin was a member of the American Legion. “Pete” operated heavy equipment for several businesses in Washington County. On April 7, 1956, he married Evelyn Gordon Broadston. She preceded him in death on August 17, 1993. His parents; two sisters, Esther Skipton, Anna Bell Johnson; step-daughter, Dianne Haberman; step son-in-law, Dean Barrington, granddaughter Betsy; and a niece Teresa, also preceded him in death. He is survived by two stepdaughters; Deborah Barrington of Blue Rapids, Beverly Miller (Jerome) of Morrowville; a stepson; and 7 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 24 at the Colonial Acres Community room. A memorial fund has been established in his name and will be designated by the family at a later time. Contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home.
