Roland F. Laue, 83, Greenleaf, died Monday, February 5, 2018 at the Washington County Hospital. Visitation was Friday, February 9, from 3 to 8 p.m., at Ward Funeral Home, Washington. The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service was 10 a.m., Saturday, February 10 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Greenleaf. Rev. Matthew Durance officiated. Organist was Jared Hatesohl and the congregation sang, "How Great Thou Art," "Just As I Am, Without One Plea" and "I Know That My redeemer Lives." Pallbearers were Gary Padgett, Kermit Rahe, Matt Uhlik, Bill Lohmeyer, Lonnie Hatesohl, Frank Nutsch and Roger Lohmeyer. Burial was in the church cemetery. Roland Frederick Laue was born on the farm, south of Greenleaf, June 11, 1934 to Walter and Esther (Hornbostel) Laue. He was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Roland attended Bethlehem Lutheran School and graduated Greenleaf High School in 1952. After high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force, where he proudly served 21 years, retiring in June of 1973 as a Senior Master Sergeant. He served his country during both the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. On October 9, 1955, he was united in marriage to Marjorie Carlson, whom he met while stationed at Duluth, Minn. They were blessed with four children, Lana, Lonnie, Michele, and Marcy. After retiring from the Air Force, Roland returned to Greenleaf and took over farming for his father. For many years he shared his mechanical skills, working for the Farmers Coop, while farming. Roland loved sports, following the St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Royals. He was an avid bowler and played softball, while in the service and later coached men’s fastpitch softball in Greenleaf. He loved attending many of his grandchildren’s events. Roland remained a faithful member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Greenleaf and served in many capacities of the church. Even throughout his illness, he still expressed his ongoing faith. Preceding him in death were his parents; sisters, Vyonne Rumpf, Delores Black; and brother-in-law Don Black. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Marge; daughters, Lana (Matt) Griffin, Scottsdale, Ariz., Michele (Tim) Voelker, Greenleaf, Marcy (Robert) Mayer, Lincoln, Neb.; son, Lonnie (Becky) Laue, Grapevine, TX; brother, John Laue, Arlington, Ill; sister-in-law, Helen Miller, Owatonna, Minn; brothers-in-law, Richard Rumpf, Rogers, Ark., Ed Pearson, Cloquet, Minn.; and ten grandchildren, Dawn (Eric) Turnrose, Nicole (Matt) McDonald, Jessie Griffin, Philip (Christy) Laue, Liz (Brooks) Allen, Carolyn (fiancé Ethan) Laue, Alyse (Darin) Rothlisberger, Michael (Kadie) Voelker, Zaina Mayer and Elaina Mayer and eight great grandchildren; nephews and nieces. A memorial fund is established to Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home.
