Doris Ruby Pierce Meyer, 97, died Monday, January 22, 2018, at Medicalodges in Clay Center, Kan.Visitation was from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday, January 25 at Ward Funeral Home in Linn. The family received friends from 4 to 6 p.m.A funeral service was held at 2 p.m., Friday, January 26 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, west of Linn.  Rev. Richard Rikli and Rev. Paul Tessaro officiated.  Barb Ruhnke was organist and Jeremy Pera sang"Children of the Heavenly Father."  The congregation sang "Rock of Ages," "Abide With Me" and "Just As I Am."Pallbearers were the officers of Immanuel Lutheran Church.Burial was in the church cemetery.Doris was born on August 9, 1921, at Walnut, Neb., to Frank and Mary Pierce.  She attended elementary school in Pleasant Valley, Neb., and in 1938 graduated from Verdigre High School in Verdigre, Neb.  She went on to Concordia College in Seward, Neb., and obtained a B.A. degree in education.  Doris taught school for many years until retiring.Doris married Erwin M. Meyer on June 14, 1942.  They celebrated 65 years together before he died in 2008. Doris had many interests besides teaching, including gardening, antiquing, reading, puzzles, and was always supportive of her husband in his work as a Lutheran pastor.She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Erwin; son, John David Meyer; daughter, Marcia Winstel; brother, Dean Pierce; sister, Roma Ham; and brother-in-law, Benjamin Ham.Survivors include her brother, Arne Pierce, Greeley, Colo.; sister, Carol (Ronald) Cook, Verdigre, Neb.; brother-in-law, Delbert (Ann) Meyer, York, Neb.; sister-in-law, Dorian (Don) Bisping, Linn, Kan.; daughter-in-law, Denise Meyer, Waterloo, Iowa; 5 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.Doris was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Strawberry, KS. She loved the Lord and her church.Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice: Immanuel Lutheran Church, The Lutheran Hour Ministries, or Lutheran Children’s Christian Concern Society, all in care of Ward Funeral Home.
