JoAnn E. Nider, 79, Washington, died Saturday, January 6, 2018 at the Centennial Homestead Nursing Home. Visitation was held Tuesday, January 9 from 3 to 8 p.m. at Ward Funeral Home, Washington. The family received friends from 5 to 7. A funeral service was at 10 a.m., Wednesday, January 10 at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Father Joseph Kieffer officiated. Gina Miller was organist and the congregation sang “On This Day, O Beautiful Mother,” “Here I Am Lord,” “America the Beautiful” and “Ave Maria.” Jacalynn Nider sang “How Great Thou Art.” Pallbearers were Mark Sandmann, Lynn Bruna, Andy Sandmann, Frank Bruna, Darcy Dobrovolny and Dallas Dobrovolny. Burial was in the Washington City Cemetery. JoAnn was born May 26, 1938 to Frank and Margaret (Cohorst) Sandmann in Marysville. She graduated from Marysville High School in 1955. On April 14, 1958, JoAnn was united in marriage to Dean Nider at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, Marysville. Two children were born to this union, Ann and Jim. JoAnn worked for First National Bank and People Heritage Savings and Loan. She later worked and volunteered at KSDS. She was a member of St. Gregory’s Catholic and St. Augustine Catholic Church and a member of Monday Evening Unit. JoAnn served on the Washington City Council and volunteered at Hearts N’ Things. JoAnn loved having coffee with friends, playing cards, golfing and going to thrift stores and garage sales. She did sewing and quilting, and loved attending her grandchildren’s activities. Dean and she would enjoy going to Lovewell Lake. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Dean in 2002; and sisters, Marie Bruna and Kathleen Dobrovolny. Survivors include children, Ann (Alan) Wineinger, Gretna, NE, Jim (Jennie) Nider, Wamego; brothers, William Sandmann, Leo (Gus) Sandmann; sisters, Caroline Gerstner, Rosemary Travelute; and six grandchildren, Tyler Glidden, Justin Glidden, Alec Wineinger, Andrew Wineinger; Joshua Nider and Jacalynn Nider; and five great grandchildren, Ava, Addy, Ensley, Berkley and Bradon. A memorial fund has been established to KSDS and contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home.
