Avalene Ann Parrack, 97, Washington, died, Thursday, January 4, 2018 at the Centennial Homestead Nursing Home. Visitation is Monday, January 8, from Noon to 8 p.m. at Ward Funeral Home, Washington. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, January 9 at Ward Funeral Home, Washington. Burial will be in Haddam City Cemetery. Avalene was born July 10, 1920 at Narka, KS to Joe and Sophie (Pelesky) Slavik. She grew up and attended school at Narka. On February 15, 1942, she was united in marriage to Vaughn Parrack at Mahaska. To this union were born two sons, Roger and Jim. Avalene worked at the Haddam Café cooking and baking, two things she enjoyed doing. She liked gardening, flowers, quilting, playing bingo and dancing. In 1990, after the death of her husband, she moved to Washington. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Vaughn, on July 30, 1990; son, Roger in 2010; two brothers, Ernie Slavik and Joe Slavik, Jr.; and sister, Gladys Sklenicka. Survivors include son, Jim (Jolene) Parrack, Washington; daughter-in-law, Retha Parrack, Haddam; four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Avalene was a very loving, caring person who went out of her way to please people. A memorial fund is established to the Haddam Cafe.
