Arthur Benjamin “Ben” Tice II, 70, of Morrowville, Kan., died Friday, December 29, 2017 at the Washington County Hospital in Washington, Kan. Visitation was Tuesday, January 2 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Ward Funeral Home in Washington. The family greeted friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service was held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, January 3, at Ward Funeral Home in Washington. Rev. Ron Brown and Rev. Jim Stark officiated. The musicians were Gay Lynn Manning and Nathaniel Tice. Music included "Amazing Grace", "How Great Thou Art" and "Daddy's Hands". The pallbearers were Darren Lucking, Neil Lucking, Brandon Lucking, Eric Stanton, Shaun Pearson and Nathaniel Tice. Burial was in the Morrowville Cemetery. Ben was born February 28, 1947 in Topeka, Kan., to Arthur Benjamin and Ellen Pauline (Stone) Tice. The family lived in Waverly, KS until moving to Washington County when Ben was in the second grade. He attended school in Morrowville. He attended and was baptized (at the age of 11) into the Morrowville Christian Church. After graduating from Morrowville Rural High School in 1965, Ben attended North Central Kansas Technical School in Beloit, KS, where he earned an electrician certificate. Upon completion of his certificate, he initially worked for several electrical contractors as an electrician. On July 31, 1971, he married Nancy Elder at the United Methodist Church in Morrowville, KS. The couple lived in Mahaska for the first year of their marriage, then returned to Morrowville in 1972. Upon their return to Morrowville, he took up driving a truck and was a truck driver for many years of his life. He drove from coast to coast and border to border even hauling into Canada on a few occasions. In between, he also worked for Westhoff Construction, Stanton’s, Bekemeyer’s, J&N Elliott Construction, as well as others. He enjoyed playing with his grandchildren, wiring up CB’s and playing solitaire. He was a member of the Morrowville Volunteer Rural Fire District, Lion’s Club, and was also involved with the Local Emergency Preparedness Committee meetings. He was preceded in death by his parents; step father, Robert Patterson; brother, Bob Tice; grandson, Carter Benjamin Lucas; and niece Daniella Hascall. Survivors include his wife, Nancy; one daughter, Darcy (Jeff) Lucas, Gladstone, Mo.; three sons, Tracy (Becky) Tice, Morrowville, Tim (Denise) Tice, Morrowville, and Paul Tice, Pittsburgh, Pa.; siblings, Judy (Bill) Hascall, Jody (Clyde) Lucking, and Tom (Martha) Tice; sister-in-law, Sue Tice; step siblings, Juanita Rice, James Patterson and Claire Perkins; three grandchildren, Nathaniel Tice, Madelyn Lucas and Olivia Lucas; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial fund has been established to the Washington County Speedway or Morrowville Rural Fire District #8. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home.
