Betty J. Fischer, 89, of Washington, KS, died Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at the Linn Community Nursing Home. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, November 2, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Washington. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 until 8 p.m. at Ward Funeral Home in Washington. The family will receive friends 4 to 6 p.m. Betty was born October 22, 1920 in Washington County, the daughter of Arthur and Florence (Beitzel) Spitsnogle. She graduated from Odell High School in Odell, NE, and then taught school for several years. Betty was a farm wife and worked as a bookkeeper for Rateuke Hardware. Later, she was employed by the Washington County Hospital. Betty was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Lawrence Fischer and Donald Fischer; sister, Margaret Spitz; and grandson, Robb Fischer. Survivors include her sons, Gary Fischer (Roberta) of Longmont, CO, David Fischer (Ruth) of Washington; brother-in-law, Jack Spitz of Lake Stevens, WA; four grandchildren, Andy Fischer (Heather) of Manhattan, Rebecca Fischer of Washington, Susan Bruna (Ryan) of Hanover, Deanna Fischer and friend Kip Schoen of Longmont, CO; two great-grandchildren, Lauren and Adam Fischer of Manhattan; and nephew, Bruce Spitz and family of Bothell, WA. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated by the family at a later time. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home.
