William "Bill" G. Hynek, Sr.

William G. "Bill" Hynek, Sr., 80, of Haddam, KS, died September 28, 2017 at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca, KS. The family will receive friends Sunday, October 1, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Ward Funeral Home in Washington. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 2, at Ward Funeral Home in Washington with Pastor Dan Norwood officiating. Sheila Ouellette will accompany Reed Wilson as he sings "In the Garden," "The Lord's Prayer" and "Going Home." Pallbearers are Ron Nutz, Steve Dittmer, Mark Tiemeyer, Jake Carlson, Willard Zenger and Jay Hynek. Honorary Pallbearers are William G. Hynek, Jr., Ryan Hynek, Tyson Hynek, Darin Hynek, Todd Hynek, Bill Wilhelm, Shelby Hynek, Victoria, Hynek and Jesicka Hynek. Burial will be in the Morrowville Cemetery. Bill was born August 28, 1937, on the farm near Haddam, to William & Nora (Bertram) Hynek. William married Patricia J. Mooren on August 28, 1959, at the United Methodist Church, Morrowville, Kansas. To this union were born three sons: William G. Jr., Todd & Darin. Patricia passed away December 7, 1970. He married LaVera Eichem Durst at the United Methodist Church, Morrowville, KS on February 9, 1980. LaVera passed away March 11, 2002. William spent his lifetime on the family farm. He graduated from Haddam High School in 1954. William went into the Navy after high school and came home to take care of the family farm when his father passed away November 3, 1957. William and his brother, Jesse, farmed & raised cattle & hogs together until Jesse’s death November 28, 2004. He also drove a school bus for many years. In his later years he continued farming & raising cattle with his grandson, Ryan Hynek. William enjoyed anything to do with farming or cattle, his numerous farm pets, visiting with family & friends, and attended his grandchildren’s activities. William was preceded in death by his parents; brother Jesse; and his spouses, Patricia and LaVera. He is survived by his sons, William G Hynek, Jr., Manhattan, KS, Todd (Teresa) Hynek, Morrowville, KS, and Darin (Jennifer) Hynek, Sioux Falls, SD; stepchildren, Charlotte (Wyatt) Engelman, Nathrop, CO; LaVern (Chris) Durst, Kansas City, MO, Charlene (William) Wilhelm, Sabetha, KS, two grandsons, three granddaughters, five step-grandsons and one step-granddaughter. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home.
