Mildred H. Gibson

Mildred Lampe Gano Gibson, 82, Washington, died May 14, 2006, at the Washington County Hospital. She was born April 18, 1924, in the Lanham community of Gage County, NE the daughter of William “Bill” and Caroline (Scheele) Lampe. Mildred was baptized and confirmed in the Lanham Lutheran Church. She graduated from Hanover High School in 1942. Millie taught country school for two years. On March 18, 1944, she married George A. Gano. He died in January, 1961. Millie married Ermon E Gibson on August 24, 1963. A daughter, Bridget, was adopted in July, 1970. Millie served in the postal department of several post offices and retired with 39 years of service. She was a charter member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Washington and an active member of the Women of the ELCA of that congregation. She has been very active in the community having been a member of an extension unit, Eastern Star, Hospital Auxiliary, 4-H leader, PTA, block chairperson for numerous non-profit organizations, Fidelia Federated Literary Club, and was a Sunday School and Bible School teacher. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Caroline Lampe, and a brother, Bob Lampe. She is survived by her husband, E. Gibson; daughter Bridget; two grand daughters, Kylie and Jenna; a great grandson, Gage; sister, Sharon Dickson, and her husband Tom; a sister-in-law, Fern Lampe; and numerous nieces and nephews Her loving, caring, cheerful personality will be greatly missed by her friends and neighbors. Funeral Service for Mildred will be at 10:00 am at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Thursday, May 18, 2006. Pastor Richard Reumann will officiate. Burial will be in the Washington City Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 17, 2006 at the Ward Funeral Home, Washington 7 to 8 pm. A memorial has been established to be designated by the family at a later time.
