Robert L. Hiltgen, 90, died Sunday, April 16, at the Linn Community Nursing Home, Linn. Visitation was from 4 to 6 p.m., Thursday, April 20 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Greenleaf. A rosary service was held at 6 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial was at 10 a.m., Friday, April 21, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Father Joseph Kieffer officiated. Sheila Ouellette was the organist. Hymns were "Jesus Christ is Risen Today," "The Strife is O'er," "I Am the Bread of Life" and "Alleluia! Alleluia!" Honorary pallbearers were Justin Hiltgen, Jason Hiltgen, Tristen Hiltgen-Lee, Baleigh Rockwell, Karlee Rockwell, Addy Rockwell, Mallory Morton, Makenzie Height, Daniel Hiltgen, Kim Rockwell, Shannon Height, Laura Hiltgen, Tabitha Hiltgen-Lee, Taylor Meyer, Samantha Meyer and Caleb Meyer. Burial was in St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery, Kimeo, KS. Bob was born at Kimeo on December 3, 1926 to Peter and Katie (McCarthy) Hiltgen. Bob was a lifelong farmer and stockman. Bob served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1946. On August 5, 1947, he was united in marriage to Gloria Depew at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Kimeo. They had three sons, Joe, Larry and Steve. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He especially liked spending time with the grandchildren and great grandchildren, family gatherings and hanging out with friends. Survivors include his wife, Gloria; sons, Robert J. (Ruth) Hiltgen, Steven (Carol) Hiltgen, both of Greenleaf; a daughter-in-law, Wanda Hiltgen, Greenleaf; a brother; and five grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents; son, Lawrence Hiltgen; a granddaughter, Kara Hiltgen; and three brothers and three sisters. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated later.
