Nelda J. Ottinger

June 8, 1946 — March 11, 2017

Our beloved Nelda June Ottinger was freed from her tribulation, after a brave and fervent fight, and her soul passed through a window to a better afterlife in Heaven on March 11, 2017, at the age of 70. Nelda was the fifth of six children born to the late Howard and Gladys Cook. She was born in Clay Center, Kansas, on June 8, 1946. She was raised in Lyons, Colorado and graduated from Lyons Senior High School. She later moved to San Jose, California, to attend San Jose Bible College and there she met the love of her life. She married Steven D. Ottinger in 1965. They were married for 51 years and lived in Washington, Kansas at the time of her passing. Nelda had a career in finance and worked for Evergreen Community College District in San Jose, CA until the birth of her son, Grant. Her priority changed with his birth and she decided to become a stay-at-home mom. She felt her greatest endeavors in life were her faith, being a partner for her husband, a devoted mother to her son and opening her heart and home to family. Nelda later worked at Lockheed Missiles and Space Company, Inc., Sunnyvale, CA; Spherion Staffing-IBM Campus, Longmont, CO and Entrepreneur as owner of her own business. She loved to entertain, decorate and maintain an immaculate home. She cherished reading the Bible, motivational books and listening to motivational speakers. Her positivity was a bright spot for those who were blessed to have known her. Nelda is survived by her husband, Steve; a son and daughter-in-law, Grant and Monica Ottinger, Omaha, NE; two grandchildren, Dylan and Natalie Ottinger; three sisters, a brother, and many nieces and nephews she loved as her own children. A time and date for her celebration memorial in Longmont, CO will be determined later. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE; specify Ovarian Cancer Research or to the Washington Christian Church Building Fund, in Washington. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home, Washington, KS. To order memorial trees or send flowers to the family in memory of Nelda J. Ottinger, please visit our flower store.
