Thomas L. Parry, D.D.S. died August 19, 2009 at the Linn Community Nursing Home. He was 81-years-old. Dr. Parry was born January 26, 1928 in Hoisington, Kansas to Maurice W. and Tillie Clio Nelson Parry. He was married in 1950 to Alberta Marie Durrant. Dr. Parry was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1946 – 1948. After his completion of dental school at the Kansas City University School of Dentistry, Dr. Parry moved his family to Washington, Kansas to start his dental practice in 1955. He practiced dentistry in Washington, Kansas, from 1955 to 1999. Dr. Parry co-founded the Midwest Society of Orthodontics for General Practitioners which met for a number of years in Washington. He was also a member of the Washington Flying Club. In 1968, he expanded his orthodontic emphasis by flying to several satellite offices in Kansas and Nebraska. Since his retirement, Dr. Parry and his good friend Kenny McCune enjoyed playing music in many area nursing homes and for local events. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Betty Alice Dickinson. Survivors include his wife, Alberta and four daughters and their families: Janice and David Norlin of Salina, KS; Ann and Clyde Majerus of Grovespring, MO; Becky and Lonnie Laue of Grapevine, TX and Kathy and Don Cunningham of Davenport, IA. Dr. Parry had 11 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. His memorial service was held Saturday, August 22, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at the Washington United Methodist Church. Pastor Randy Jellison-Knock officiated. The pianist, Philip Figgs, played Whispering Hope”. Congregational Hymns were “God of Grace God of Glory” and “Amazing Grace”. Majerus family sang “I’ll Fly Away”, “How Deep the Fathers Love For Us” and “Precious Memories.” A memorial fund has been established to Meadowlark Hospice or to the United Methodist Church.
