Marcella M. Hogan, 98, formerly of Greenleaf, died, Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at Topeka. Visitation was Sunday, October 23, from noon until 6 p.m. at Ward Funeral Home in Greenleaf. The family received friends from 4 to 6 p.m. A rosary service was held at 6 p.m., Sunday, at Ward Funeral Home in Greenleaf. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 24 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Kimeo. Father Joseph Kieffer officiated. Sheila Ouellette played the organ while the congregation sang “Be Not Afraid”, “Amazing Grace”, “On Eagles Wings”, “May the Angels Be Your Guide”, and “How Great Thou Art”. The pallbearers were Darin Brun, Nicholas Hogan, Trevor Sullivan, Shawn Stigge, Kellen Kruse, and Vincent Cox. The honorary pallbearers were Jared Hewitt, Brian Stigge, Justin Hewitt, Delton Brun, Landon Kruse, David Brun, Andrew Hogan, and Gabriel Hogan. Burial was in the church cemetery. Marcella was born on December 25, 1917 at Kimeo, KS to Martin and Johanna (Burke) Hoover. She attended school through the 8th grade. On August 21, she was united in marriage to Lawrence Hogan at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Kimeo. They made their home on a farm by Kimeo before retiring and moving to Greenleaf. Marcella and Lawrence had a large family and she was very proud of them all. Marcella was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Greenleaf and very active in the church. She loved music and sang with the church choir. Marcella enjoyed singing, dancing and her daily prayers. Marcella and Lawrence attended dances at the Moose Lodge in Marysville well into their 70’s. She raised a large garden and canned the produce. Marcella also enjoyed raising flowers. Survivors include sons, Kevin (Debbie) Hogan, Topeka, John (DeDe) Hogan, Topeka, Stephen (Tina) Hogan, Salina; daughters, Marcia (Howard) Brun, Topeka, Agnes (Gary) Sullivan, Topeka, Johanna (David) Rogers, Blue Springs, MO, Maureen (Norman) Stigge, Morrowville, Loretta (Edwin) Rahe, Topeka, Monica (Douglas) Kruse, Palmer, Theresa (Craig) Cox, Manhattan, Ursula (Lynn) Hewitt, Topeka; sister, Lola Donigen, Washington; twenty-eight grandchildren, thirty-five great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Lawrence in 2009; sons, infant, Lynn Joseph Hogan, and Michael Hogan in 2016; brothers, Leonard Hoover, Lawrence Hoover; sisters, Viola Tegethoff, Florence Pickett, Marcelline Bennett; and grandsons, Caleb Hogan, John Patrick Hogan; and great granddaughter, Micah Sigle. A memorial fund is established to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or to St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home.
