Erwin E. von Lehe

Erwin E. von Lehe, 98, Linn, died Saturday, April 15, 2006 at the Washington County Hospital, Washington. He was born May 11, 1907, the third child and first son to Johann Hinrich and Lydia Dorothea (Frese) con Lehe at the farm near Clifton and was baptized by his grandfather Rev. E.A. Frese, then pastor at Immanuel Lutheran Church. He attended both Immanuel Lutheran and Strawberry public schools. Later he graduated from the Lincoln Auto and Electric School in Lincoln, NE. On May 20, 1934 he married Marie Sophia Hilda Bott ar St John’s Lutheran Church, Palmer. His career began by trapping for bounty while in grade school, after trade school he ran a thrashing outfit and became a stockman/farmer. He was later a partner in B-Line Truck and Transfer, then added heavy equipment to his business, and doing some of the first soil conservation work in the area. He then worked at several local businesses until he retired. The church was always important to him. He became a charter member of the LLL ( Lutheran Layman’s League, which sponsors the Lutheran Hour ministry on the redio.) and traveled the state to promote the support among Missouri Synod Lutheran churches. Following retirement, he enjoyed doing the tape mi istry for Zion Lutheran which included making tapes of the Sunday sermon plus adding hymns he thought they might enjoy. As a father, he will be remembered by his children as one always ready to share his faith in Christ and applying God’s word while teaching a life lesson which often occurred as we sat around the table after supper. He is survived by daughters, Evelyn Bokelman, Washington, Donna Jean Silver and Lynn, Burlingame; sons, Robert von Lehe and Bonnie, Lyons, Elden von Lehe and Judith, Scottsdale, AZ; brother, Emil von Lehe and Gladys, Schaumburg, IL; sister Lydia Helms and Wilbert, Linn; 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Funeral service will be held Thursday, April 20, 2006 at 10:30 am at the Zion Lutheran Church, Linn. Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 19, 2006 at the Ward Funeral Home in Linn from 5 to 7 pm. Ward Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
