James W. Donigan, 88, of Greenleaf, KS, died early Friday, June 26, 2009 at Community Memorial Healthcare in Marysville. A funeral service was held at 9:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Greenleaf. Burial was in St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery, Kimeo, KS. James W. was born September 7, 1920 at Greenleaf, KS, the son of James J. and Minnie V. (Brown) Donigan. He graduated from Greenleaf High School. James served in the U.S. Army in North Africa. After the military he worked for the Coop at Greenleaf. He was united in marriage to Lola Hoover on October 25, 1944 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Kimeo. In the early 50's they moved to Kansas City and Jim worked as a Bread Salesman for several companies until his retirement in 1982. On December 3, 1986, he and his wife, Lola, moved back to Greenleaf. James enjoyed being involved in his childrens sports and would umpire city league games and served as grade school sports commissioner. He also enjoyed visiting at the cafe with people from the community. He was a member of Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Kansas City, MO, St. Pius X Catholic Church, Mission, KS, and Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Greenleaf, and Cursillo. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Charles Donigan; and four sisters, Margaret Ross, Juanita Mercier, Joesphine Weixelman and Elnora Martin. Survivors include his wife, Lola; five sons, James F. Donigan and wife Leslie of Kansas City, MO, John Donigan and wife Patricia of Lee Summitt, MO, Dennis Donigan and wife Nina of Columbus, TX, Michael Donigan and Patrick Donigan, both of Olathe, KS; three daughters, Jeanine Towle and husband Richard of Kona, HI, Theresa Donigan of Kansas City, MO, and Maria Thornhill and husband Mark of Kansas City, MO; two sisters, Mary Alice Schwerdtfeger of Ohio, and Patricia Stevenson of Papillion, NE; eighteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A memorial fund has established and will be designated at a later date. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home.
