Opal Christine Nelson Bolejack, 86, formerly of Greenleaf, KS, died Saturday, June 20, 2009 at Topeka, KS. A funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 24, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Greenleaf. Pastor Gordon Sandquist officiated. Laura Wyant played piano while Lori Stone sang "Nearer My God to Thee' and "Precious Lord, Take My Hand." Burial was in the Maplewood Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bob Harlan, Tim Harlan, Harold Merrit, Steven Bolejack, Richard Bolejack and John Stupka. Opal was born October 9, 1922 on a farm near Greenleaf, Kansas. She was the daughter of William and Julia Nelson. She spent her childhood in Greenleaf. On December 21, 1945, she married Earl Richard Bolejack. They moved to Topeka and together they farmed. Opal also worked for Hygenic cleaners for many years. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; brother, John Nelson; and sister, Hannah Bolejack. Survivors include her son, Steve Bolejack, Sr. and wife Jan of Topeka; grandchildren, Richard Bolejack (Shelly), Angie Bolejack (John), and Steven Bolejack, Jr.; great-granddaughters, Lauren and Ainslee; brother-in-law, Orville Bolejack; sister-in-law, Adele Bolejack, both of Greenleaf; and two nieces and one nephew. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated at a later date. Contributions may be sent in care of Ward Funeral Home.
